Yesterday, the latest update of the Statement of Direction for MS Dynamics AX document was published, telling us what Microsoft has in mind for our product over the coming months/years. This latest review is not very long and does not provide much long-term information, which suggests that Microsoft has some surprises in store that it does not want to publish yet, not even to its Partners network. It is not surprising, considering information about the next version has already leaked, and that version is under NDA commitments…

Without going into too much detail, what we can expect shortly is more or less the following:

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 (late 2013)

    • Notable improvements in inventory management.
    • Demand planning using the Time Series algorithm implemented in Microsoft Analysis Services.
    • Improvements in the Retail vertical, including a new POS version for Windows 8 (including tablets, of course) and improvements with e-commerce integration.
    • Final version of the Windows 8 applications already introduced in beta versions (Expenses, Times, and Approvals).
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX Rainier (late 2014)

    • Redesign aligned with the Windows 8 experience based on HTML5.
    • Full integration with Azure in its various public and private cloud forms (on-premise, cloud, or hybrid solutions). Guides and tools will be published to guide and enable migration, depending on each case.
    • Improvements in deployment management regardless of the chosen deployment mode.

And I also cannot reveal much more, but I will definitely do so as more publishable information becomes available :)
